Chicken Keshkek (Traditional Wheat and Chicken Stew) Recipe

Chicken Keshkek Recipe


  • 2 cups wheat berries,
  • 2 chicken breasts,
  • 2 tablespoons butter,
  • 1 tablespoon paprika,
  • Salt,
  • Black pepper.


  1. Rinse the wheat berries and soak in warm water for 2 hours,
  2. Drain and place them in pressure cooker,
  3. Submerge them in water and cook until they soften,
  4. Boil the chicken breasts until softened,
  5. Drain the wheat berries and place in a large pot,
  6. Add 2 cups of the chicken broth (water used to boil the chicken breasts)
  7. Cook on low heat stirring and mashing constantly using a wooden spoon,
  8. After 5 mins of stirring add the shredded cooked chicken breasts,
  9. Continue cooking on low heat while stirring until the wheat becomes creamy,
  10. Add salt and black pepper, stir and remove from heat,
  11. Melt and heat the butter in a small saucepan,
  12. Add the paprika, stir well and remove from heat,
  13. Pour the melted butter over the keshkek and serve.
