Danish Butter Cookies (Vaniljekranse) Recipe
Today I wanted to share the vanilla vaniljekranse of Royal Dansk's famous butter cookies known as danish butter cookies. A reader asked me about these cookies a few months ago (probably more than a few months ago by the time I publish the recipe). In other words, she didn't ask about vaniljekranse directly, she asked about that box in general. Of course, since they are all different cookies, it is not possible for me to fit them all in one recipe. So I wanted to start with the most popular one.
Every country has a butter cookie. Ours are un kurabiyesi and bakery style butter cookies. Vaniljekranse looks the most like bakery style butter cookies. Their tastes are almost the same (I will return to this flavor topic again.). Their consistencies are slightly different. Ours has a melt-in-your-mouth crunch. Since vaniljekranse contains egg white, it has a harder crunch than our butter cookies. Un kurabiyesi, on the other hand, have a consistency that melts directly in the mouth, as they do not contain any eggs.
Now I would like to return to the subject of taste and even dwell on it a little. If you are a lover of Royal Dansk cookies, this recipe must have got you very excited. I don't want to pour water on the fire of your excitement, but I have something to say. The cookie you will make will be a very delicious cookie, but unfortunately it will not be the same cookie that comes out of that box. Even though we use the same recipe, it won't be the same as the cookie I make. Because the three of us will be using different butters.
Butter cookies are butter-based cookies, and although they are flavored, the main thing that gives their flavor and smell is butter. Since each butter has a different flavor and smell, the butter cookies that everyone makes have a different taste and smell. Therefore, it is not possible to obtain the same taste without using the butter used by the Royal Dansk brand.
In the comments of some recipes, you see comments like "I made it, it smelled very buttery." When you see this, know that what smells is not the recipe, but the butter of the person who made the comment. When you use a heavily scented butter, your cookies will also smell heavily of butter. Recipes are not made out of nothing. You know what goes around comes around. It is a proverb that describes the cooking process. Whatever you put in the recipe, you will get that taste as a result.
I'm talking about butter, but there are many people who want to use margarine instead of butter in recipes. The same goes for margarine, of course. When you use margarine instead of butter in recipes (Technically, there is no harm in doing this, it does not affect its consistency.). The taste and smell of what you make will change and the taste and smell of the margarine you use will be felt.
The same goes for vanilla, the flavoring of the recipe. You may want to use vanilla sugar instead of vanilla, and you can use it too. But the scent of vanilla sugar containing artificial vanilla flavor is also different from each other. Therefore, whatever vanilla flavor you use for your cookies, your cookies will smell in that flavor too.
