Homemade Ketchup Recipe
Serving : 700 ml
Ingredients
- 4 kg red tomatoes,
- 1 onion,
- 3 cloves of garlic,
- 4 celery stalks,
- 1/3 cup sugar,
- 1/3 cup vinegar,
- 4 tbsps cornstarch,
- 1 tbsp salt.
Preparation
- Peel the tomatoes and grate or process with a blender and pour into a large cooking pan,
- Cut onion into four, dice garlic cloves, valve celery stalks and add into tomatoes,
- Cook in low heat for 1 hour, stirring occasionally,
- Drain with a fine strainer,
- Transfer into a smaller pan,
- In a mixing bowl beat vinegar, cornstarch and a scoop of tomato mixture and add into the pan,
- Cook until it thickens,
- Add sugar and salt and cook for 5 mins. more,
- Pour ketchup into glass jars and seal the jars tight,
- Place the jars into a pressure canner or pressure cooker and cover with hot water,
- Cover the lid and cook for 3-5 mins after the steam comes out,
- Remove the jars from water and dry with a towel,
- Turn the jars upside down and set aside overnight,
- Keep in a cool place away from sun.
