Ginger Ale Recipe

Ginger Ale Recipe

As I mentioned in the Dukan beer recipe I shared before, I absolutely love drinking cold beverages in the summer. But while trying to cool down, I don’t want to consume unnecessary amounts of sugar. If I’m going to consume sugar, I’d rather sit down and enjoy a nice piece of baklava properly. I don’t think gaining weight from drinking lemonade is fair.

Don’t get me wrong though, it’s not that I dislike lemonade. In fact, it’s one of my favorite drinks, but honestly, I just don’t think it’s worth the calories. I’d rather eat my baklava and then cool off with a lightly sweetened ginger soda or a sugar-free Dukan beer while fooling myself into thinking, “Wow, I eat so healthy.” Just kidding, of course. I’m definitely not the kind of person who would drink something after baklava and ruin the taste in my mouth. I do everything I can to make that baklava flavor last as long as possible.

At this point, I’m officially stopping the jokes. I genuinely love keeping cold drinks in the fridge during summer that I can enjoy without feeling guilty. Dukan beer is at the top of that list. I personally love it, but I’m also aware that it’s not suitable for people who don’t enjoy the taste of green tea. So before summer even arrived, I started experimenting with low-sugar cold drinks with different flavor profiles. Last year, I shared ginger bug and fermented soda recipes. I’ll definitely be making different kinds of sodas again this summer, but fermentation is a time-consuming process. Sometimes I just don’t want to wait that long for a fizzy drink. So I decided to adapt the diet ginger soda recipe from my book “There’s No Such Thing as a Diet Like This!” into something everyone could enjoy.

First of all, the most important thing you should know about this recipe is that it has a very bold ginger flavor. If you don’t enjoy the taste of ginger, this recipe may not be for you. But if you do like ginger, it could easily become one of your favorite drinks.

The sugar content is quite low, but if you want to make it completely sugar-free, you can simply omit the sugar. And if you prefer using alternative sweeteners instead of refined sugar, I should remind you that sugar is still sugar regardless of its source. In recipes like date-sweetened buckwheat cake, the fiber content of dates helps reduce blood sugar spikes, making them relatively healthier.

However, beverages don’t benefit from the fiber of so-called healthy sweeteners in the same way, so they don’t provide the same effect. Still, if you prefer not to use refined sugar, you can sweeten it with apple juice or grape juice instead.
