Sangria Recipe
I haven't shared a recipe from Spain for a long time. I wanted to share one just before Valentine's Day. As a matter of fact, it would be better if I share a mulled wine recipe instead of sangria when the weather is so cold in these days. But the joy of the sangria overpowered the romance of the mulled wine. Convinced that the world needed more joy, I decided on sangria.
Sangria is a cocktail that can be made with many different ingredients. It is mainly made with red wine (also there is a white wine version), orange soda, apple, orange, lemon and peach, rum, sugar and cinnamon sticks. I prefer to use orange juice instead of orange soda. I use peach in summer, but I don't use it in winter because I don't have a chance to find it. In the summer, I also use strawberries instead of peaches from time to time. The scent makes a wonderful addition.
Sangria has three important features. The first is that since fruit juice and fruits dominate the taste of the wine, it becomes more delicious even if a low quality wine is used. The second is that it is very easy to drink for those who do not like the taste of alcoholic drinks, as it tastes more like fruit juice than an alcoholic drink. The last one is that, thanks to the rum and added sugar, the alcohol rate increases and it makes you drunk in a shorter time even if you drink in small quantities.
If you want to combine sangria with a Spanish classic dinner on Valentine's Day, I recommend that you add the chicken paella recipe and the seafood paella recipe to your favorites already. You can finish the Spanish night with creama catalana.
Even if the whole menu is not Spanish, if you don't want to stray from Valentine's Day concept, you can make heart-shaped beetroot ravioli, which I shared at the beginning of the week, as the main course, and apple rose tarts for dessert. Both menu options will be quite colorful, cheerful and enjoyable. Just like a scrumptious Valentine's Day dinner should be.
