Creamy Cucumber Salad Recipe
Cucumber salad with yogurt? Isn't it cacık? Hmm, not really. When we think of yoghurt and cucumber together in our cultural codes, the first thing that comes to mind is of course cacık. But it is possible to make other things just as nice from these two.
Like what? For example, waterless cacık (insert laughing emoji here). We may think of cacık first and then cacık varieties. That doesn't mean it won't be followed by delicious things like creamy cucumber salad. Cucumber salad with yogurt is very different from cacık in terms of consistency. It is quite different in terms of taste with the great contribution of the onion.
We have seen the use of onions in yogurt salad before in the recipe for kishke khadra. Very good feedbacks about this recipe came from everyone who tried it. By looking at these feedbacks, I think I can conclude this salad will also be loved.
Cucumbers here in Spain are a little different than in Turkey. There were cucumbers that my mother grew in her garden when I was a child. They are thicker, rough on the outside, have more seeds on the inside. Here we have them. That's what I mean when I say one large cucumber in the recipe. If you are going to use smaller cucumbers, you may need to use 2-3 cucumbers. Since the cucumber I used is thick, I cut it into quarters. If yours are thinner, you can cut them in half or just slice them whole.
Greek yogurt works best for the recipe, but you may not have greek yogurt on hand. In this case, you can practically turn your home made yogurt into strained yogurt by straining it with a cheese cloth.
